Mercury Bay Estate Vineyard

Mercury Bay Estate Vineyard, Winery & Cellar Door on eastern Coromandel Peninsula is a showcase for local and Hawke’s Bay grapes. Simon & Veronica Ward purchased a piece of an original vineyard choosing a Pinot Noir block purely as an ideal location to live.  

However, they have developed their Cellar Door & Restaurant so locals and tourists can relax and enjoy the beauty of the area while tasting wines — together with platters of local food.

The current range of wines include chardonnay pinot gris, gewürztraminer, sauvignon blanc, merlot, syrah, cabernet franc, locally grown pinot noir and a delicious rose pinot noir.

The harvest is hand picked to ensure the grapes reach the winery in the best possible condition.

“The Cooks Beach area provides a perfectly suited environment for our grapes. We are protected from the prevailing westerly weather by the ranges and our soil is well matched to growing Pinot Noir grapes. Our land is north facing, gently sloping towards the Mercury Bay and picks up great sun and heat through late summer for optimum ripening, producing great wines available for tasting at our unique Coromandel, Cellar Door.”

2015 Rosé Pinot Noir

Blushed with pretty pomegranate, this delicious, easy drinking Rosé features abundant raspberry and red liquorice aromas. The wine is smooth and well integrated with a hint of oak that provides structure and balance. Some fruit sweetness initially, moving to a soft dry finish. A delightfully appealing wine to enjoy slightly chilled.
