Nestled amongst rolling green Waikato hills, the Red Barn was an early 1900’s livery stable which provided fresh horses for stagecoaches undertaking journeys across the region. Having undergone many changes it is now one of the most unique hospitality venues in the Waikato.
Situated on a 203 hectare dairy farm just a 20-minute drive from Cambridge, the iconic Red Barn is an outstanding setting for weddings, corporate events and, more recently, a very special dining experience.
A Taste of Waikato showcases the finest foods and wines of the region with a sumptuous six-course degustation lunch or dinner menu. Stories about the local producers and ingredients in each dish are shared and interactive courses (ie churn your own butter and design your own plate) add to the fun. Chef Leith Davidson has a passion for taking simple ingredients and creating taste sensations. He has worked in international restaurants and several award-winners in New Zealand and Australia. He returned home with his young family to settle in the Waikato to enjoy the lifestyle and the culinary opportunities offered by the region’s diverse produce.
Private groups of 20-plus can also book a Taste of Waikato experience any time subject to availability.
The Red Barn is proudly owned by former top jockey Lance O’Sullivan (OZMN) and his wife Bridgette who is passionate about quality service and has an eye for style, sophistication and detail. Designed to suit various visitor needs, this venue offers eye-catching views of the Kaimai Ranges, Mount Maungatautari and the Hinuera Valley. Where better to enjoy a taste of the Waikato.
